  3. PARVOVIRUS AND CORONAVIRUS
  4. These two viral diseases didn't show up in the United States until the
  5. late 70's.  Every dog in the country, no matter where you live, should
  6. be vaccinated for both of these diseases.  There is no excuse for
  7. doing otherwise and it doesn't make a difference if they never leave
  8. your house.  These two infections affect dogs of all ages, but they
  9. are particularly devastating to puppies.  The viruses persist in the
  10. kennel area, soil or anywhere else for at least 6 months and probably
  11. for 2-3 years.  You can easily track the organisms home on your shoes
  12. or equipment.  The only reasons that we have not lost more animals to
  13. these diseases is that excellent vaccines are now readily available.

  15. The principle signs are diarrhea and vomiting and the two diseases can
  16. only be differentiated by virus isolation or histopathology (which are
  17. only done at universities or state health labs.)  Death is more
  18. frequent with parvo, but in the young of very old, either disease can
  19. be a killer.  We recommend vaccinating for both of these diseases
  20. every six months.

  22. Duramune KF-11 Parvo Vaccine 20.99 {see also First Dose}
  23. By Fort Dodge.  This modified live, parvovirus product was released in
  24. December of 1989 and was the first significant improvement in
  25. protection against this disease in several years.  We have seen no
  26. vaccine reactions or cases of parvo in vaccinated dogs.  This is an
  27. excellent and much needed product.  Given subcutaneously or
  28. intramuscularly.  Puppies can be vaccinated as early as 5 weeks of
  29. age.  Revaccinate every 2 weeks until 15 weeks of age, and then yearly
  30. boosters.

  54. By Norden.  Killed canine coronavirus vaccine.  Can vaccinate as early
  55. as 6 weeks of age and should repeat in two to three weeks.  In young
  56. pups it is best to give an additional vaccine after 12 weeks of age.
  57. Adults, after their initial two shot series, get yearly boosters.

  64. handling.  We suggest having all vaccines sent by our special air
  65. service.

  68. then surrounded by an insulating material, and placed inside an
  69. insulated box.  We have experimented with various styrofoam coolers,
  70. as well as other packing material, and have found our method to be the
  71. absolute best.  The layers of material and air make a superior
  72. package.

  75. antibiotic to help prevent bacterial growth during transport, even in
  76. very hot temperatures.
